The Tucker Dorsey Blue Key Alumni Banquet

The Tucker Dorsey Blue Key Alumni Banquet will be held Friday, September 30, 2011, at the GA Center for Continuing Education on the campus of The University of Georgia. Sponsored by the UGA chapter of the Blue Key Honor Society, new student initiates and four honorary members will be recognized. The Blue Key Service Award will be presented to The Honorable David Ralston, Speaker of the GA House of Representatives; Don Perry, Chick-fil-A Vice President for Public Relations; and Dr. Charles S. Bullock, III, Richard B. Russell Professor of Political Science at UGA. Senator Charlie Bethel, Georgia Senate, will receive the Blue Key Young Alumnus Award. These distinguished individuals have made significant contributions to UGA, the state, and our nation and exhibit the Blue Key motto, “Serving I Live.” A reception will start at 6:30 p.m., with the dinner and program following at 7:30 p.m.

2010 Tucker Dorsey Blue Key Alumni Banquet

The Tucker Dorsey Blue Key Alumni Banquet will be held Friday, November 5, 2010, at the GA Center for Continuing Education on the campus of The University of Georgia. Sponsored by the UGA chapter of the Blue Key Honor Society, new student initiates and one honorary member who were inducted earlier this year will be recognized. The Blue Key Service Award will be presented to The Honorable Jack Hill, State Senator from Reidsville; Jack Rooker, Atlanta businessman; and Dr. Betty Jean Craige, Director of UGA’s Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. Dr. Beth A. Shapiro, Shaffer Career Development Assistant Professor at Pennsylvania State University, will receive the Blue Key Young Alumnus Award. These distinguished individuals have made significant contributions to UGA, the state, and our nation and exhibit the Blue Key motto, “Serving I Live.” A reception will start at 6:30 p.m., and the dinner and program will follow at 7:30 p.m.

2010 Blue Key New Inititiates Spring Luncheon

Annual spring luncheon for newest class of initiates recently inducted into the Blue Key Honor Society at UGA. New initiates will be able to meet and visit with senior administrators, Athens area local legislators, Athens-Clarke Co. leaders, fellow Blue Key members, and Blue Key alumni.

2010 Blue Key Initiation Ceremony

The 2010 UGA Chapter of the Blue Key National Honor Society held its annual Initiation Ceremony at the UGA Chapel on Sunday, April 11, 2010. A reception for new initiates, guests, and all attendees immediately followed the ceremony in the Peabody Board Room of the Administration Building.

UGA Blue Key in Atlanta

Members of the UGA Blue Key Honor Society recently visited the State Capitol. They met with Governor Sonny Perdue and Secretary of State Brian Kemp. Following morning visits and a tour of the Capitol, the members, along with co-advisor Bob Izlar, hosted a luncheon in the Empire Room of the Sloppy Floyd Towers Building. At the luncheon, members were joined by state elected officials, Blue Key alumni, and Special Friends of Blue Key.

2009 Tucker Dorsey Blue Key Alumni Banquet

The Tucker Dorsey Blue Key Alumni Awards Banquet was held October 2, 2009, at The University of Georgia’s Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The three main purposes for the event were to recognize and honor: the new student initiates and honorary members who were inducted earlier this year, the Young Alumnus Award Winner, and the Blue Key Service Award Recipients. The banquet was sponsored by AT&T, the Richard B. Russell Foundation, and the University of Georgia Alumni Association. The new initiates are men and women of outstanding character and ability, who have not only achieved distinction for scholarship, but who also are recognized for their exemplary service to their peers, University, and community, as well as for their outstanding leadership. At the banquet, these new members, along with new honorary members, are presented to past and present members of Blue Key. The recipients of the Tucker Dorsey Memorial Scholarships were Carolyn Crist and Patrick Dever, Jr. The AT&T Student Leadership Award recipients were Megan Bruner and Connor McCarthy. The Richard B. Russell Student Leadership Award was presented to Lucas Puente. The Young Alumnus Award is presented to a Blue Key alumnus whose early professional and personal contributions have indicated a special level of service and leadership. The 2009 recipient was Amy Mulkey McGowan, Senior Associate with McKinsey and Company. The Blue Key Service Award is presented to distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to The University of Georgia, the state, and our nation, and who exhibit the Blue Key motto, “Serving I Live.” The Blue Key Service Awards were presented by Dr. Michael F. Adams, University of Georgia President. The 2009 recipients were Representative Jerry Keen, Jerry Griffin, and C. Ronald Ellington.

2009 Blue Key New Initiates Spring Luncheon

The 2009 New Initiates Spring Luncheon hosted by AT&T was held at Trumps in the Georgian Hotel in downtown Athens on April 13, 2009. The three new honorary members who were inducted at the beginning of the program are Representative Doug McKillip, Representative Keith Heard, and Senator Bill Cowsert. The new initiates and current members of Blue Key were then treated to a luncheon where they were able to visit with UGA senior administrators, Athens-Clarke County government officials, Athens-area Blue Key alumni, and Special Friends of Blue Key. Afterwards, the 2009-2010 officers were elected - President Megan Bruner; Secretary Lizzy Nephew; and Treasurer Alex Hill.

2009 UGA Blue Key New Member Induction Ceremony

The Blue Key National Honor Society is a general honor society which bases its eligibility on all-around leadership in student life, high scholastic achievement, and service to others. This organization is unique in that it recognizes students at colleges and universities throughout the nation for an exemplary and balanced record of achievement inside and outside the classroom. Blue Key celebrates and honors the many accomplishments of it membership. It's members express leadership through the engagement in service activities which enhance the well being and reputation of the institution and greater community. Blue Key initiates are deserving students who have a demonstrated record of success and excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service every spring. Blue Key salutes observable meritorious achievement and continued growth, development, and leadership by example. Blue Key National Honor Society recognizes the uppermost percentile of students who have a distinguished and balanced record in all areas. The 2009 Spring Initiation of new members into the Blue Key Honor Society was held at the UGA Chapel. Approximately 62 new members were inducted and became lifetime members of Blue Key. Kathy Pharr, Asst. VP for Finance and Administration at UGA, was the guest speaker. A reception was held immediately following the ceremony in the Peabody Board Room of the Administration Building.

UGA Blue Key in Atlanta

Members of the UGA Blue Key Honor Society recently visited the State Capitol. They met with Governor Sonny Perdue during the morning visit to the Capitol. At Noon, the members, along with co-advisor Bob Izlar, hosted a luncheon in the Empire Room of the Sloppy Floyd Towers Building. At the luncheon, members were joined by state elected officials, Blue Key alumni, and Special Friends of Blue Key. After lunch, the members returned to the Capitol for a visit with Lt. Governor Casey Cagle on the Senate Floor.

The AT&T Student Leadership Award recipients were Katy Bowers and Kevin Chang. The Richard B. Russell Student Leadership Award was presented to Courtney Kupets and Andrew Rasmussen. The Young Alumnus Award is presented to a Blue Key alumnus whose early professional and personal contributions have indicated a special level of service and leadership. The 2008 recipient was Professor Scott Hershovitz, associate professor of law at the University of Michigan. The Blue Key Service Award is presented to distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to The University of Georgia, the state, and our nation, and who exhibit the Blue Key motto, “Serving I Live.” The Blue Key Service Awards were presented by Dr. Michael F. Adams, University of Georgia President. The 2008 recipients were Charles E. Campbell, Jim Nalley, and Suzanne Yoculan.

UGA Blue Key Atlanta Day

Members of the UGA Blue Key Honor Society recently visited the State Capitol. They met with Governor Sonny Perdue and were recognized by the Georgia Senate. Senator Jack Hill escorted Blue Key president Mia Catharine Morgan and treasurer Kramer Johnson onto the Senate Floor. After being introduced to the Senate, Mia Catharine was given the opportunity to briefly express sincere appreciation for the recognition of UGA's Blue Key Honor Society. Following morning visits to the Capitol, the members, along with co-advisors Tom Landrum and Bob Izlar, hosted a luncheon at the Commerce Club. At the luncheon, members were joined by state elected officials, Blue Key alumni, and Special Friends of Blue Key.
